The Third Session of the Conference of the Parties to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control was held in Durban, South Africa on 17-22 November 2008. SESRIC participated in the Session in its capacity to represent the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) as an observer international intergovernmental organisation to the Conference.
The importance of the Conference of the Parties derives from the fact that the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) is the first treaty negotiated under the auspices of the World Health Organization and represents a paradigm shift in developing a regulatory strategy to address addictive substances by formulating demand reduction strategies as well as supply issues.
SESRIC has prepared a special comprehensive report on Tobacco Control in OIC Member Countries* (AR) (EN) (FR) for the First Islamic Conference of Ministers of Health held on 12-15 June 2007 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
