Within the framework of the Vocational Education and Training Programme for the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC-VET) and in line with the OIC-TVET Strategic Roadmap 2020-2025, SESRIC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, organised the Training Course on “Promoting Good Governance of TVET for Efficient System Management” on 10-12 May 2022 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training course was provided by competent experts from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia for the benefit of 110 experts and executives from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Authorities and relevant national institutions of 22 OIC Member Countries.

The main objective of the training course was to provide insights into developing good governance practices as well as tools for policy development for effective and efficient system management in TVET. The training also aimed to share knowledge and experiences for achieving good governance and management in TVET by highlighting the most recent policy trends, challenges, constraints, good practices, and opportunities for improvement.

The training course commenced with the opening statement by H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR, Director General of SESRIC, who stressed the key role that TVET plays in the development agenda of many developed and developing countries, including the OIC Member Countries. H.E. Mr. DABUR highlighted in his speech that the good governance of TVET has become an issue of growing interest to countries across the world as they seek to improve the effectiveness of their vocational education and training systems. He further underlined that the good governance of TVET enhances the role of TVET system and contributes to the achievement of national development objectives by ensuring the engagement of different stakeholders at various levels. Before concluding, he briefed the participants on the progress achieved in the implementation of the OIC-TVET Strategic Roadmap 2020-2025, as well as the Centre's efforts in the domain of TVET.

In his welcoming remarks, H.E. Dr. Wikan SAKARINTO, Director General of Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, began by thanking SESRIC for jointly organising this important training course. He informed the participants about the initiatives and efforts of the Republic of Indonesia, with particular emphasis on their endeavours towards developing good multilevel governance to improve the effectiveness of the TVET System at the national level. He also emphasized the readiness and willingness of the Ministry to continue enhancing its collaboration with SESRIC and the already existing strong ties with the TVET Authorities of the OIC Member Countries to foster sharing of knowledge, experience and best practices in the OIC region.

The OIC-VET is an initiative of SESRIC officially launched at the COMCEC Economic Summit held in Istanbul, Türkiye, on 09 November 2009. The Centre developed and designed this Programme to support and contribute to the efforts of the OIC Member Countries towards addressing the challenges and limitations faced in the area of TVET. The Programme also aims to enhance the quality of TVET systems in the OIC Member Countries, which in turn contribute to the development and competitiveness of their economies. SESRIC, in its capacity as the Executing OIC Organ of the Programme, monitors the implementation of the “OIC-TVET Strategic Roadmap 2020-2025”, and regularly submits the progress reports towards the implementation of the Roadmap to the Ministerial Sessions and the Follow-up Committee Meetings of the COMCEC.
