SESRIC COVID-19 Pandemic Database provides statistics and visualized data on COVID-19 pandemic and vaccinations in OIC Member States with the objective of raising public awareness and offering policy makers with a tool to guide their ongoing efforts in their fight against the pandemic. The WHO defines the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus, which spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The current COVID-19 outbreak was first noticed in the city of Wuhan, the capital of the Hubei Province in China. On 29 December 2019, China announced the existence of pneumonia cases in Wuhan. These cases were soon determined to be caused by a novel coronavirus. The first cases of COVID-19 outside of China were identified in Thailand (on 13 January 2020) and Japan (on 16 January 2020). As for OIC Countries, the first COVID-19 cases were reported on 25 January 2020 by Malaysia with 4 cases. Since then, COVID-19 has spread to many more countries. On 11 March 2020, WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic. The OIC Countries have not been immune to the spread with the number of OIC Countries reporting COVID-19 cases increasing to 56 by the end of April 2020. The COVID-19 Pandemic Database of SESRIC hosts data concerning COVID-19 related cases, deaths, and people vaccinated and fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in the OIC Countries. The data are updated on a monthly basis and go back to 25 January 2020 for cases, 19 February 2020 for deaths, 23 December 2020 for people vaccinated, and 10 January 2021 for people fully vaccinated. The data sources are Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering (JHU CSSE) for cases and deaths and Our World in Data (OWID) for people vaccinated / fully vaccinated.
