SESRIC Participated in the Symposium on ‘Jerusalem and the Gaza War: Palestinian Identity and Existence under Threat of Erasure’

SESRIC participated in the Symposium on “Jerusalem and the Gaza War: Palestinian Identity and Existence under Threat of Erasure” in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Symposium was organised by the OIC in collaboration with the United Nations’ Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP).

Prominent speakers at the opening session included H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim TAHA, OIC Secretary-General; H.E. Mr. Saled SUHAIBANI, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the OIC; H.E. Mr. Khaled KHIARI, Assistant Secretary-General for Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific; H.E. Ambassador Cheikh NIANG, Chair of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People and Permanent Representative of Senegal to the UN; and H.E. Minister Riyad MANSOUR, Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations. Dr. Nenden Octavarulia SHANTY, Director of Training and Technical Cooperation Department, represented SESRIC at the event.

At the plenary session, the Minister for Jerusalem Affairs of the State of Palestine, H.E. Mr. Ashraf AL-AWAR; Dr. Maha SAMMAN, Associate Professor at Al-Quds University; and Dr. Munir NUSEIBAH, Director of Al-Quds Human Rights Clinic and Community Action Centre, delivered their presentations and interventions.

The Symposium discussed the current situation in Gaza and the state of Quds within the recent developments of the war on Gaza. It condemned the brutal attacks on the Gaza Strip by the Israeli occupation forces and stressed the importance of stopping these attacks before the situation worsens. The Symposium also highlighted the importance of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslims as an inalienable heritage of Islam.
