Training Course on 'Poverty, Living Conditions and Cross-Cutting Social Issues Statistics' in UAE

In accordance with its 2015 Annual Work Plan, SESRIC organised the training course on 'Poverty, Living Conditions and Cross-Cutting Social Issues Statistics' at the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on 3-7 May 2015, within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme. The course was conducted by Mrs. Maha Dawas, Expert at the Department of Statistics (DoS) of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with participation of relevant officials of NBS of UAE.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009); Living conditions, poverty and cross-cutting social issues statistics – a statistical activity category under the Environment and multi-domain statistics – covers work on multidimensional methods to measure poverty, living conditions in the broad sense, social inclusion/exclusion, social indicators, and social situation.

The training course on 'Poverty, Living Conditions and Cross-Cutting Social Issues Statistics' focused on the following topics:

  • Definition of surveys-expenditure and consumption survey-panel surveys Coordination council on quality
  • Data sources of measurement and analysis of poverty and inequality.
  • Methods of analysis of expenditure and income data
  • Poverty Concepts
  • Determining poverty line
  • Measuring poverty indicators
  • Poverty Profile
  • Measuring inequality indicators
