Training Course on “Management of Tourism in Protected Areas” in Saudi Arabia

Within the framework of the OIC Tourism Capacity Building Programme (Tr-CaB), SESRIC organised the Training Course on “Management of Tourism in Protected Areas " at the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH) in Riyadh on 08-10 June 2015. The course was conducted by the experts Ms. Begum Soysal, and Mr. Mustafa Kaymak from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey with the participation of relevant officials of the SCTH.

The training course on “Management of Tourism in Protected Areas” focused on the following topics:

  • The model of Turkey in legal protection of cultural heritage
  • The legislative framework for cultural conservation sites in Turkey
  • Cultural protection in the framework of law
  • Incentives for cultural and tourism investments of Turkish Government
  • Tourism Encouragement Law (1982)
  • Planning in culture and tourism conservation and development areas
  • The impact of tourism in the world heritage sites
  • Case studies

The training course included a field visit to the ancient city of Al Dir’iya which has been preserved through scientific methodology of protection with a well-developed expertise.
