SESRIC attended the ‘Enhancing Economic and Cultural Relations among OIC Member Countries: Opportunities and Challenges’ side-line event during 13th Islamic Summit

H.E. Ambassador Musa Kulaklıkaya, Director General of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) moderated the session on “Economic and Commercial Cooperation among OIC Member Countries: Problems and Solutions” a side-line event of the 13th OIC Islamic Summit Conference on 13 April 2016, organised by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey and the Centre for Strategic Research (SAM).

Ambassador Kulaklıkaya delivered a key note speech on Economic and Commercial Cooperation among OIC Countries. He highlighted that currently, the OIC cooperation agenda includes a wide-range of economic, cultural and social issues with the aim of bringing the Member Countries closer together not only in order to pursue their original political objectives but also to pave the way for ultimate economic integration among them.

He reminded that 57 Member States of the OIC are dispersed over a large geographical region, spread out on four continents, extending from Albania (Europe) in the north to Mozambique (Africa) in the south and from Guyana (Latin America) in the west to Indonesia (Asia) in the east.

Amb. Kulaklıkaya underlined the role of SESRIC in enhancing the economic cooperation among the OIC countries and that SESRIC plays a significant role in enhancing the south-south cooperation within the OIC community through initiating and implementing a wide-range of capacity building programs on various socio-economic areas and fields of immediate interest to the OIC member countries.

Dr. El Hassane Hzaine, Director of Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT) and Dr. Halit Eren, Director General of the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) also held speeches during the event.
