SESRIC Participated in the Virtual Extraordinary Sessions of the Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities (CCSA)

SESRIC participated in two extraordinary sessions of the Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities (CCSA) held virtually on 4 May and 18 June 2020. Dr. Atilla Karaman, Director of Statistics and Information of SESRIC, and Ms. Nenden Octavarulia Shanty, Researcher, represented SESRIC in the sessions.

 

Chaired by UNODC and World Bank, the First Virtual Extraordinary Session held on 4 May 2020 mainly covered the preparations concerning “How COVID-19 is Changing the World: A Statistical Perspective” was shared with the participants. Additionally, UNSD and the World Bank introduced the planned country needs assessment survey which has the objectives of understanding the impact of the pandemic on current operations of the NSOs and new data needs to effectively plan longer term support by donors and the global statistical community.

During the Second Virtual Extraordinary Session of the CCSA on 18 June 2020, agenda items from the first virtual extraordinary session were followed up concerning the launch of the joint CCSA publication on COVID-19 and country needs assessment. In addition, the issues related to better coordination of national household surveys under the pandemic conditions, the quality of death registration under the current pandemic were covered. The Second Virtual Extraordinary Session also considered the concept note provided by World Bank for the ongoing consultations on the upcoming World Development Report 2021.

The regular 36th Session of the CCSA will be held online on 9-11 September 2020.
