SESRIC Participated in the Round Table on ‘Policy Guidelines for Sustainable Water Management in Agriculture in OIC member countries’

Organized on the side line of the Cairo Water Week 2022 held under the theme “Water at the Heart of Climate Action”, SESRIC participated in the Round Table on “Policy Guidelines for Sustainable Water Management in Agriculture in OIC member countries” which was organized by the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

Key representatives of governmental authorities of OIC member states that are involved in the development of policy frameworks and strategies in water management took part in the round table discussions in addition to representatives of international and regional organizations active in the domains of water, agriculture and food security. The main objective of the round table was to present and discuss OIC countries’ experience, international good practices, and concrete policy solutions implemented for ensuring food security through sustainable water management in agricultural development.

The Assistant Director General, Mr. Fadi Farasin represented SESRIC in the round table discussions and delivered a presentation titled: Towards Sustainable Agriculture Water Management in OIC Member Countries. In his presentation, Mr. Farasin emphasized the close relationship between water and food security and touched upon the current trends and main challenges facing OIC member countries. To address the challenges; Mr. Farasin, highlighted the need to enhance intra-OIC cooperation, particularly through the adoption of more sustainable water management practices, more measurable goals, broader funding opportunities for various infrastructure and climate adaptation programs, and through the improvement of capacity building through cooperation.
