Training Workshop on ‘Developing Effective, Reliable, and Affordable Social Protection Services for Vulnerable Groups’

Within the framework of SESRIC’s Social Development Capacity Building Programme (SD-CaB), SESRIC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of the Republic of Türkiye and the Ministry of Family and Social Services of the Republic of Türkiye, organised a Training Workshop on “Developing Effective, Reliable, and Affordable Social Protection Services for Vulnerable Groups” on 02-04 May 2023 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training workshop was provided by competent experts from the relevant Directorates General of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of the Republic of Türkiye and the Ministry of Family and Social Services of the Republic of Türkiye for the benefit of 116 experts and executives from the Ministries and relevant national institutions responsible for social protection services in 29 OIC Member Countries.

The training workshop provided a platform for exchanging views and experiences on social protection policies and mechanisms in order to develop effective and affordable social protection systems for vulnerable people. The three-day training workshop covered the following topics:

  • Social Assistance System of Türkiye: Integrated Social Assistance Information System (ISAS)
  • Services for Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly in Türkiye
  • The Role of Daytime Services in the Child Protection System
  • Services Provided in Women's Guesthouses
  • Reaching Vulnerable Groups with Family Social Support Program (ASDEP) Applications
  • Family-Oriented Education and Counselling Services for the Support and Empowerment of Families
  • Social Security System in Türkiye
  • Policies Towards Vulnerable Groups

The training workshop also included presentations from representatives of relevant international organizations, namely the Islamic World Education Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the International Social Security Association (ISSA). Additionally, representatives from the relevant national institutions in Malaysia, Tunisia, and Senegal highlighted commendable efforts undertaken in the field at the national and regional levels.

SESRIC developed its Social Development Capacity Building Programme (SD-CaB) in 2021 with the aim of supporting and contributing to the efforts of the OIC Member States towards enhancing the institutional and human capacities of their national institutions working in the fields of social development. The programme facilitates transferring, sharing and exchanging of knowledge, experiences and best practices among the member countries in this important domain through various modalities such as training courses, training workshops and technical study visits.
