Training Course on ‘Combat with Desertification and Drought in OIC-Africa Countries’
Date: 16-18 October 2023
Venue: Virtual-SESRIC, Ankara - Türkiye

Within the framework of its Environment Capacity Building Programme (Environment-CaB), SESRIC, in collaboration with the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation (ATCT) and the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), organised a Training Course on “Combat with Desertification and Drought in OIC-Africa Countries” on 16-18 October 2023 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training course was provided by competent experts from the Institute of Arid Regions of Tunisia for the benefit of 75 experts and executives from the relevant national authorities of 12 OIC African French-Speaking Member Countries.

The training course aimed at strengthening the technical capacities of the participants to develop and implement effective strategies in the area of combating desertification and drought in OIC-Africa countries. The course provided insight into a wide range of topics, including drought monitoring and mitigation, soil erosion control and water harvesting in dry areas, and wind erosion dynamics and sand encroachment control. In addition, the training course was an important platform for sharing knowledge, experiences and best practices in the fight against desertification and drought in OIC-Africa countries.

The three-day training covered the following topics:

  • Drought Monitoring and Mitigation
  • Soil Erosion Control and Water Harvesting in Dry Areas
  • Wind Erosion Dynamics and Sand Encroachment Control

The Environment Capacity Building Programme (Environment-CaB) was developed and initiated by SESRIC in 2014 in order to promote sustainable production and consumption patterns and to contribute to the protection of environment in the OIC Member Countries. Within this framework, the Centre organises capacity-building activities for the benefit of the member countries by using various modalities such as training courses, training workshops, and study visits.
