SESRIC organised a Training Course on “Developing Regional Poverty Reduction Policies and Strategies” through an online video conferencing platform, as part of its Poverty Alleviation Capacity Building Programme (PA-CaB).

The training was provided by experts from the Presidency of Strategy and Budget of the Republic of Türkiye and the Directorate General of the Development Agencies at the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye.

The activity gathered 67 experts and executives from the Ministries and relevant national institutions of 20 OIC countries with the aim of enhancing the understanding and skills of the participants in developing effective regional poverty reduction policies and strategies.

The two-day training course covered key issues in the domain. Experts from both, the Presidency of Strategy and Budget of the Republic of Türkiye and the Directorate General of the Development Agencies at the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye provided insightful and comprehensive presentations on topics such as “the Role of National Development Plans in Poverty Reduction: A Case Study from Türkiye”, “Integrating Sustainable Development Goals into National Policy: The Turkish Experience”, and “Regional Development Framework (Strategies / Institutions/ Tools) in Türkiye”, among others.

The primary goal of the training was to equip participants with the tools and knowledge they need to effectively contribute to poverty reduction efforts in their respective countries at the regional level. The training served as an opportunity to share best practices, successful stories, and innovative approaches in regional poverty alleviation. It also provided a platform for participants to discuss challenges and opportunities in their respective countries, fostering cooperation and collaboration.

SESRIC developed and initiated its Poverty Alleviation Capacity Building Programme (PA-CaB) in 2011. The Programme aims to support and contribute to the efforts of the OIC Member Countries towards enhancing the institutional and human capacities of their national institutions working in the domain of poverty alleviation. Through various modalities, including training courses, training workshops, and study visits, the Programme seeks to encourage the sharing and exchanging of information, experiences, and best practices among the OIC countries in this crucial domain.
