Workshop on 'Business Demography and Entrepreneurship Statistics'

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised a Workshop on “Business Demography and Entrepreneurship Statistics” on 16-17 July 2024 with the attendance of 54 participants from the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of 20 OIC countries. The Workshop was conducted in collaboration with the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and the United Nations Statistical Division (UNSD) through an online video conferencing platform.

The technical sessions of the Workshop were led by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), and complemented by the contributions from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), and the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), sharing insights through best practices and presentations on country-specific experiences. The Workshop included interactive Q&A sessions and delved into the following key topics:

  • Introduction to business demography and dynamics
  • Advanced business demography methodology
  • Measurement of the determinants, performance and impact of entrepreneurial activities
  • Entrepreneurship indicators

The StatCaB Programme was initiated in early 2007 as the flagship capacity development programme of SESRIC. Within the framework of the StatCaB Programme, the Centre collects information from the NSOs of OIC member countries through the biennial StatCaB Questionnaire, assesses their statistical training needs and capacities, matches these needs and capacities, and organises statistical capacity development activities between the beneficiary and provider countries.
