Within the framework of the SESRIC Project titled “Promoting Food Security in OIC Member Countries through Sustainable Agricultural Inputs”, which is funded by the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) under the 11th Call for Project Proposals of the COMCEC Project Funding, SESRIC organised a Training Course on “Advancing Food Security through Sustainable Agricultural Inputs: Strategies and Practices for OIC Member Countries” on 27-29 August 2024, through an online video conferencing platform.

The training course was attended by 95 executives and experts from the ministries of agriculture and relevant national institutions of 16 OIC countries.

The main objective of the training course was to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of sustainable agricultural practices aimed at advancing food security. Moreover, the course explored the latest strategies and best practices in using agricultural inputs, such as fertilisers, pest control measures, and irrigation techniques, focusing on sustainability and environmental impact. Additionally, the course enhanced participants’ knowledge and skills in integrating modern agricultural technologies in order to improve food production and ensure food security within OIC countries.

The three-day training covered the following topics:

• Introduction of Sustainable Agriculture;
• Sustainable Agricultural Practices and Applications in Türkiye;
• Ecological Agriculture: Integrated Pest Management;
• Agricultural Water Management;
• Organic Agriculture;
• Policy Recommendations for Promoting Use of Sustainable Agricultural Inputs; ,
• Sustainability through Smallholders, and
• TAGEM’s R&D Studies and Innovation Activities for “Promoting Food Security in OIC Member Countries through Sustainable Agricultural Inputs”.

The COMCEC Coordination Office (CCO) introduced the COMCEC Project Funding (CPF) in 2013, a financing mechanism that funds projects submitted by the OIC countries and relevant OIC Institutions. The funding is provided in the form of a grant through the Development and Investment Bank of the Republic of Türkiye, a main body in the CPF scheme. Since the initiation of CPF, SESRIC has implemented 13 projects so far under various cooperation areas and sectoral themes determined by the CCO.
