SESRIC, in collaboration with the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), and the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS), will jointly organise a workshop titled “Energy Statistics, Balances, and Accounts for Informed Energy and Climate Policies”. The workshop will take place from 10-12 December 2024 at SESRIC headquarters in Ankara, Türkiye.

This workshop follows the workshop titled “Compilation of Macro-Relevant Environment and Climate Change Statistics”, organized by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Dubai from 11-22 November 2024, in response to the growing demand from ESCWA, AITRS, and OIC Member States for capacity development in energy statistics, balances, and accounts.

The workshop aims to raise awareness about the use of energy statistics, balances, and accounts through interactive presentations and hands-on exercises, focusing on the application of energy data to inform policymaking, including in support of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, it will cover practical considerations for enhancing the production and use of energy statistics, balances, and accounts.

The workshop is designed for representatives involved in the compilation of energy statistics and balances, including professionals from National Statistical Offices (NSOs), Ministries of Energy, and other relevant institutions. It will also benefit compilers of SEEA-Energy accounts, particularly those working in energy and environment statistics or environmental-economic accounts within NSOs. Additionally, the workshop targets lead agencies responsible for coordinating national energy statistics programmes.
