SESRIC to Present Preliminary Findings on Islamic Tourism Indicators at the Second Arab Forum for Tourism Statistics
Date: 14-16 October 2024
Venue: Muscat - Oman

SESRIC will participate in the Second Arab Forum for Tourism Statistics on 14-16 October 2024 in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman to present the preliminary findings of its survey on Islamic Tourism Indicators.

As the fastest-growing sector of global tourism, Islamic tourism has emerged as a significant market segment, underscoring the need for relevant and reliable data to support evidence-based policy development. In May 2024, SESRIC launched a comprehensive questionnaire aimed at evaluating the needs and capacities of OIC countries in developing Islamic tourism indicators. This initiative is part of SESRIC’s ongoing efforts to support the Strategic Roadmap for the Development of Islamic Tourism in OIC Member Countries, first introduced in 2018.

The preliminary findings of the survey will be presented by Dr. Ahmet Öztürk, Senior Researcher at SESRIC. The presentation, titled “Assessing the Capacities and Needs of OIC Countries for Islamic Tourism Indicators: Preliminary Results from the 2024 SESRIC Survey”, will provide insights into whether OIC countries are currently collecting Islamic tourism indicators, their need for training to gather this data, and whether they require or can offer training to support the development of these indicators.
