Training Course on ’The Role of Competition Policy in Enhancing Intra-OIC Trade’

Within the framework of its Competition Authorities Capacity Building Programme (CA-CaB), SESRIC, in collaboration with Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) and, the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC), organised a Training Course on “The Role of Competition Policy in Enhancing Intra-OIC Trade” on 21-22 January 2025 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training course was provided by experts from the Malaysia Competition Commission, General Authority for Competition of Saudi Arabia, Turkish Competition Authority, and Competition Commission of Pakistan, for the benefit of 68 experts and executives from competition authorities and relevant national institutions in 37 OIC Countries.

The training course aimed to raise awareness on the important role of competition authorities in enhancing intra-OIC trade while highlighting the common obstacles faced by the member countries in this domain. Through fostering appropriate policies geared towards stimulating economic growth and enforcing pertinent legal frameworks, competition authorities play pivotal role in advancing trade at national, regional and international levels. The activity provided insights on potential ways and means to foster collaborative approach among the relevant stakeholders for productive trade sector.

The following topics were covered during the two days of the training:

  • Competition Law Enforcement and Its Significance to International Trade: The Malaysian Experience;
  • Overview of Competition Law Frameworks in Pakistan;
  • Competition Policy in Saudi Arabia;
  • Competition Compliance Program;
  • Breaking Barriers: Lessons from Malaysia's Journey and OIC Partnerships;
  • Malaysian Competition Law: An Introduction;
  • Role of Competition Policy in Trade; the Turkish Competition Experience.

The Competition Authorities Capacity Building Programme (CA-CaB) was developed and initiated by SESRIC in 2012. The Programme aims at supporting and contributing to the efforts of the OIC Member Countries towards strengthening their institutional and human resources capacities by sharing knowledge, experiences and best practices among the Competition Agencies, Authorities and relevant national institutions. Within the framework of this Programme, the Centre organises capacity-building activities by following various modalities such as training courses, workshops, webinars and study visits.
