Training Course on ‘Safety and Health in the Use of Chemicals at Work’

SESRIC organised a virtual Training Course on “Safety and Health in the Use of Chemicals at Work” on 9-10 April 2025, in collaboration with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) of the Ministry of Human Resources of Malaysia. The training was held within the framework of SESRIC’s Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building (OSH-CaB) Programme and in line with the OIC Occupational Safety and Health Network (OIC-OSHNET) Work Plan 2024-2025.

The training aimed to address all aspects of dealing with chemicals, including production, storage, use, transport, and disposal, and providing insights on approaches to problems and solutions concerning safety and health in the use of chemicals at work for the benefit of the OIC Countries. A total of 175 experts and executives from the relevant ministries and national institutions in 26 OIC countries benefited from the course.

The training featured experts from Chemical Management Division of DOSH Malaysia and covered the following topics:

  • Recognising Chemical Hazard: Identification, Classification & Safety Precaution by Mrs. Laila Binti Che LONG, Head of Unit;
  • Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) on Workplace Health & Hygiene by Eng. Mokhtar Bin SABTU, Head of Section;
  • Safe Storage, Handling & Disposal of Chemicals by Mrs. Nurul Fatimah Bayah Binti HARON, Head of Unit;
  • Chemical Exposure, Control Measure & Communication Strategy in Emergency/Disaster Context by Ts. Kasman Bin NASIR, Head of Unit;
  • Harmonisation of National Laws & Regulations with International Standards for Chemicals Use by Mr. Mohd. Radzi Bin ROZIHAD, Head of Unit; and
  • Transitioning to Safer Chemicals: Future Prospects & Innovations for Safety Management by Mr. Haji Mohd. Fadhil Bin Haji Abu YAZID, Head of Section.

SESRIC launched the Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building (OSH-CaB) Programme in 2020 to support the efforts of the OIC Member States in improving workplace safety and health, reducing occupational risk of injury and disease.
