The year 2020, the United Nations’ 75th anniversary, also witnessed the start of the Decade of Action for the achievement of the Global Goals by 2030. In keeping with these ambitious goals, developing countries have intensified South-South and triangular cooperation increasingly, sharing ideas, knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet similar challenges and build a shared future for all. Countries and development partners are increasingly taking up these arrangements as part of their inclusive global partnerships for meeting development challenges and global development agendas.

A significant example of such impactful cooperation is the Vocational Education and Training Programme for the OIC Member Countries (OIC-VET), which has been recognised by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) as a “Good Practice in South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable Development”.

This recognition is featured in Volume 3 of the “Good Practices in South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable Development” by UNOSSC. The publication highlights the OIC-VET Programme’s contribution to SDG 4, especially SDG 4.3, which aims to ensure equal access to affordable and quality technical, vocational and tertiary education, and SDG 4.4, which focuses on increasing the number of youth and adults with relevant technical and vocational skills for employment, decent jobs, and entrepreneurship.
