A momentous commemoration ceremony for Dakar as the OIC City of Tourism 2025 was held on 1 September 2025 with the participation of H.E. Mountaga DIAO, Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts of Senegal.

The recognition was endorsed by the 12^th Session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers, held in Khiva in 2024.

The objective of establishing this OIC award is to bring to the fore the growing importance of tourism and tourism-related sectors in the cooperation framework of the OIC.

This initiative also brings enormous benefits to the selected city in socioeconomic terms and provides unique opportunities to regenerate the city, enhance its image & make it better known at the OIC and international scale.
