Date: 04 September 2025
Venue: Jeddah - Saudi Arabia

H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK addressed the Symposium on "Empowering Youth in the OIC Member States through Video Games and Social Media: Opportunities and Challenges," organised by OIC, UNA-OIC and the Ministry of Sports of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as the Chair of the 5th Session of ICYSM, in Jeddah on 4 September 2025.

In her presentation on “Youth in OIC Countries in the Era of Digitalization,” H.E. SELÇUK underlined that:

  • With over 380 million young people (30% of global youth), accounting for around 18% of the total OIC population, youth represent both a demographic advantage and a pressing responsibility.
  • Yet, over 26% of OIC youth are NEET (not in employment, education or training),
  • Digitalisation is no longer a distant prospect—it shapes how young people learn, work, and connect right now.
  • 93% of internet users aged 16–24 playing games, and nearly one in three adolescents gaming daily.
