Within the framework of Environment Capacity Building Programme (Environment-CaB), SESRIC, in collaboration with the G20 Global Land Initiative Coordination Office at the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of the Republic of Türkiye, organised a Webinar on “Land Degradation and Restoration” on 9 December 2025.

The webinar brought together 147 participants from 35 OIC member countries and promoted knowledge exchange and cooperation on combating land degradation and related matters. It provided insights on the G20 Global Land Initiative, which was launched by G20 Leaders in 2020 under the Saudi G20 Presidency and hosted by the UNCCD Secretariat, and explored opportunities within its framework to strengthen sustainable land management and restoration efforts. In addition, it highlighted Türkiye’s good practices at the national level and provided a valuable opportunity for discussions and potential collaborations among the participating countries.

The webinar covered the below topics:

• Global Land Initiative’s vision, mission and restoration-focused activities towards 2040
• Türkiye’s journey in the LDN process and national practices in combating land degradation
