SESRIC Participated in the A Sub-Regional Workshop for Enhanced Capacity, Coordination and Collaboration in Strengthening Migration Data Systems in North Africa

SESRIC participated virtually in the Sub-Regional Workshop for Enhanced Capacity, Coordination and Collaboration in Strengthening Migration Data Systems in North Africa, organised by the IOM Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa, and the League of Arab States on 24-26 November 2025.

The workshop brought together representatives from National Statistical Offices (NSOs), ministries responsible for administrative data, national migration observatories, and relevant regional and international organisations. The agenda covered key thematic areas, including:

  • Migration Data in North Africa: Regional Trends and Strategic Frameworks
  • Harmonizing Migration Indicators: Tools, Standards, and Methodologies
  • Role of Regional Institutions and Their Mandates, Ongoing Initiatives, and Opportunities for Collaboration with National Actors
  • Mapping Institutional Linkages and Data Flows

During the session titled “Role of Regional Institutions and Their Mandates, Ongoing Initiatives, and Opportunities for Collaboration with National Actors”, Mr. Seyid Tahir MAHMUD, Senior Statistics Officer, delivered a presentation on behalf of SESRIC titled “Efforts in Advancing Migration Data: Insights and Experiences from OIC Member Countries.” The presentation highlighted the Centre’s ongoing statistical outreach activities, including training courses, workshops, and webinars, and underlined existing and potential areas of collaboration with OIC Member Countries, regional entities, and international organisations in the field of migration and refugee statistics.

The presentation also underscored the role of the OIC Statistical Commission (OIC-StatCom) as a high-level platform that brings together the NSOs of OIC Member Countries to foster cooperation among themselves and with relevant regional and international partners on a wide range of statistical domains, including migration statistics.
