SESRIC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Water and Amelioration Scientific Research Institute (SMETI) of the Republic of Azerbaijan to strengthen cooperation in the field of water resources and related technical areas. The MoU was signed on 18 June 2026 in Baku on the sidelines of the IsDB Annual Meetings 2026.

The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation between the two institutions to enhance collaboration in water management, research, capacity-building, and technical cooperation for the benefit of OIC Member Countries. The MoU was signed by Dr Atilla KARAMAN, Director of Training and Technical Cooperation at SESRIC, and Mr Mir Movsum DADASHEV, Chairman of the Board of SMETI of Republic of Azerbaijan.

Within the framework of its Water Capacity Building Programme (Water-CaB), SESRIC and SMETI will strengthen collaboration in the field of water through effective and systematic cooperation, including the exchange of expertise and information, as well as the organisation of joint training programmes, workshops, technical activities, and other collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing institutional capacities in the water sector.

Operating under the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency, SMETI is responsible for conducting scientific research and developing engineering solutions in support of sustainable water management, irrigation systems, and soil reclamation.
