Training Course on ‘Combat with Desertification and Drought’

Within the framework of its Environment Capacity Building Programme (Environment-CaB), SESRIC, in collaboration with the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation (ATCT), organised a Training Course on “Combat with Desertification and Drought” on 06-09 September 2021 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training course was provided by competent experts from the Institute of Arid Regions in Medenine, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries in Tunisia, for the benefit of 47 experts and executives from the relevant national authorities in 10 OIC member countries.

The main objective of the training course was to provide insights on the causes, factors and manifestation of the global phenomenon of desertification and drought while emphasizing the ways and means of resisting the consequences and combating with the phenomenon. Furthermore, the training course gave an overview of the Tunisian experience and strategy in the field of soil erosion control and watershed management, as well as the area of controlling wind erosion and combating desertification.

This training course was designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this challenging time of global crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
