Within the framework of the Vocational Education and Training Programme for the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC-VET) and in line with the OIC-TVET Strategic Roadmap 2020-2025, SESRIC organized a Training Workshop on “Enhancing Collaboration between TVET Institutions and Industry towards Effective Curriculum Development” on 21-23 February 2022 through an online video conferencing platform.

Competent experts from the Technical and Vocational Education Training Division of the Ministry of Education Malaysia provided the training workshop for the benefit of 106 experts and executives from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Authorities and relevant national institutions of 25 OIC Member Countries.

The main objective of the training workshop was to share knowledge, experiences and best practices in establishing efficient collaboration between TVET institutions and industry with the view of developing an effective curriculum. The training workshop also provided insights into the mechanisms and procedures to develop a well-designed vocational curriculum/programme in line with labour market demands.

In his speech at the opening session, Mr. Onur ÇAĞLAR, Director of Training and Technical Cooperation Department at SESRIC, stressed the significance of developing and updating TVET curricula in line with the realities of life and changing business landscape to ensure the employability of graduates and meet the needs of the labour market. Mr. ÇAĞLAR also added that accelerating the involvement of industry and increasing the level of partnership in the curriculum development process will help identify the right skills, reduce skills gaps, and forecast the emerging skills for the future. He concluded his remarks by thanking the Vocational Education Training Division of the Ministry of Education Malaysia for jointly organising this capacity building activity within the framework of the OIC-VET Programme and in line with the OIC-TVET Strategic Roadmap 2020-2025.

In her welcoming remarks, Ms. Hajah Zanariah binti HAJI AHMAD, Director of Technical and Vocational Education Training Division at the Ministry of Education Malaysia, began by thanking H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR, Director General of SESRIC, for the exerted efforts of SESRIC in conducting capacity building training activities under OIC-VET Programme despite the continuing COVID-19 pandemic situation. Furthermore, Ms. HAJI AHMAD highlighted the impact of the pandemic in accelerating the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) technologies, expanding the digitalization of human interactions, e-commerce, online education, and remote work. She also emphasised the importance of aligning the curricula with the industries by involving the industry in the development of curricula and research activities. She concluded her remarks by stressing the importance of the joint work of OIC Member Countries towards upholding TVET to be students’ first choice of education.

The OIC-VET is an initiative of SESRIC officially launched at the COMCEC Economic Summit held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 09 November 2009. The Centre developed and designed this Programme to support and contribute to the efforts of the OIC Member Countries towards addressing the challenges and limitations faced in the area of TVET. The Programme also aims to enhance the quality of TVET systems in the OIC Member Countries, which in turn contribute to the development and competitiveness of their economies. SESRIC, in its capacity as the Executing OIC Organ of the Programme, monitors the implementation of the “OIC-TVET Strategic Roadmap 2020-2025”, and regularly submits the progress reports towards the implementation of the Roadmap to the Ministerial Sessions and the Follow-up Committee Meetings of the COMCEC.
