Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised a Training Course on ‘Migration and Refugee Statistics’ for the benefit of 43 experts from National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of 21 OIC countries on 27-28 November 2023 through an online video conferencing platform.

Mrs. Neriman Can ERGAN, expert in the Demographic Statistics Department of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), conducted the course and covered the following topics:

• Conceptual Framework of International Migration
  • Pillars of international migration (stocks & flows, foreign born population, irregular migration, migration management, social integration, nationals residing abroad and so on)
  • Special focus on the statistics on refugees and asylum (challenges, 1951 Geneva Convention, main origin countries and basic figures
• Measurement and Monitoring International Migration
• Country Case: Türkiye
