Within the framework of its Webinar Series on Statistical Experience Sharing, SESRIC organized a Webinar on “Prospects for Harmonizing Statistics on Halal Sector” on 11 December 2023. The webinar was conducted in collaboration with the Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT), Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, and Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC).

Attended by official statisticians and practitioners from OIC countries and international experts working or interested in Halal industry statistics, the Webinar aimed to provide a platform to elaborate on the possible general methodology framework of Halal sector statistics and how to develop the required standards and mechanisms to produce, harmonize, and disseminate such indicators within the national statistical systems of OIC member countries.

Including discussions about the current applications, challenges faced, and possible other perspectives by all stakeholders, the Webinar covered the following topics:

• Overview of the Halal Industry in OIC Countries
• Issues related to data production and dissemination on Halal sector statistics
• Good practices and experiences from the OIC member countries
• Current applications, challenges faced by stakeholders
• Insights, prospects and proposals for harmonisation of Halal sector statistics
