H.E. Mariam A. KHAN, UNFPA Representative for Türkiye and Country Director for Azerbaijan and Georgia, paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK. The visit aimed to discuss possible cooperation opportunities to leverage the respective expertise of UNFPA and SESRIC for the benefit of OIC countries.

During the meeting, H.E. SELÇUK underlined that SESRIC places special emphasis on statistics, research and technical cooperation to initiate cooperation linkages among the member countries. The capacity-building activities and technical collaboration with national, regional, and global counterparts play also an important role in materializing these cooperation linkages. She also emphasized the importance of synergizing efforts between SESRIC and UNFPA Türkiye to harness the power of data and knowledge-sharing in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

In turn, H.E. KHAN thanked H.E. SELÇUK for her warm welcome and commended SESRIC’s pivotal role in promoting evidence-based policymaking and fostering sustainable development across the OIC countries. She mentioned that the intersecting areas of UNFPA Türkiye and SESRIC provide a good opportunity for further cooperation.

The meeting ended with both parties affirming their readiness to work closely together to foster sustainable development across the OIC countries.
