Technical Review Meeting on ‘International Tourism in OIC Countries’

SESRIC held its ninth Technical Review Meeting on 16 April 2024 at its headquarters in Ankara, Türkiye. The meeting aimed to discuss and present the outcomes of the latest SESRIC research report on ‘International Tourism in OIC Countries 2024’.

The report was prepared as a technical background study for the 12th Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers, which is to be held in Khiva, Uzbekistan during 31 May - 2 June 2024. The report examines recent trends and developments in international tourism, offering insights into the industry's resilience, economic impacts, and future prospects by specifically focusing on OIC countries. Under the theme of “Empowering Smart and Sustainable Tourism for Development”, the report also reviews the issues related to smart and sustainable tourism development and provides recommendations on how to promote innovation and technology adoption in tourism sector in OIC countries.

The meeting was attended by the directors and experts from the Research, Statistics, Training, and Publication departments of the Centre. Dr. Kenan BAGCI, Senior Researcher from the Economic and Social Research Department made a detailed presentation on the content of the report and shared the main findings with the participants. In an interactive environment, the participants also intervened during the presentation to provide their comments and feedback. The discussion on the report will be reviewed and updated based on the feedback received during the meeting.

The Technical Review Meetings, initiated by H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK, Director General of SESRIC, aim to foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing at the Centre by bringing together senior staff to discuss and evaluate the quality and relevance of the Centre’s research work. These meetings also offer SESRIC staff an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the methodology, structure, scope, and outcomes of the Centre's research reports while promoting open dialogue for feedback and comments.
