Webinar on ‘Improving Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in the Mining Sector’

Within the framework of the Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building Programme (OSH-CaB), and in line with the OIC Occupational and Safety Health Network Work Plan 2023-2024, SESRIC, in collaboration with the OIC Labour Centre, has successfully a Webinar on “Improving OSH in Mining Sector” on 17 December 2024.

The webinar brought together 112 experts from Occupational Safety and Health Institutions of 16 OIC Member Countries. The webinar aimed to recognise the potential hazards workers face in the mining sector and the best ways to overcome those hazards by exchanging best practices within the OIC region.

The Webinar hosted presentations by experts from the OIC Labour Centre, the Directorate General of Occupational Safety and Health (DGOSH) of the Republic of Türkiye, and the Labour Directorate of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Their presentations covered the following key topics:

  • Risk methodologies for identifying hazards and addressing risks in the mining sector,
  • Employers’ and workers’ rights and responsibilities concerning the mining sector,
  • Türkiye’s experience in disaster management in mines, and
  • The experience of Jordan with regard to legal framework of OSH in mining sector.

SESRIC launched the OIC Occupational Safety and Health Network (OIC-OSHNET) in 2011 to establish an international network for the systematic sharing of information and experience in the domain of OSH among the national OSH institutions of the OIC Member States, thereby improving the quality of their OSH services and standards. SESRIC initiated the Occupational Health and Safety Capacity Building Programme (OSH-CaB) in 2010 to support the efforts of the OIC Member States in improving workplace safety and health.
