SESRIC Organised the Follow-up Meeting of the 13th Session of the OIC Statistical Commission in the margins of the 56th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission in New York

SESRIC, in its capacity as the Secretariat of the OIC Statistical Commission (OIC-StatCom), organised the Follow-up Meeting of the 13th Session of the OIC-StatCom on 5 March 2025 as a side event of the 56th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission in New York, USA. 30 delegates from 18 OIC countries, as well as the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) attended the meeting.

The meeting commenced with opening remarks delivered by H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK and continued with the remarks of Dr. Areef SULEMAN, Group Chief Economist of IsDB, and H.E. Dr. Yousuf Mohamed AL RIYAMI, Director General of National Statistics of Oman and the Chairman of the 13th Session of the OIC-StatCom.

As the Secretariat of the OIC-StatCom, SESRIC provided participants with an update on the implementation of resolutions adopted during the 13th Session of the OIC-StatCom, held in a hybrid format at SESRIC Headquarters in Ankara, Republic of Türkiye, in October 2024. Additionally, SESRIC briefed participants on the preparations for the upcoming 14th Session.

The participants discussed and agreed on the following issues:

  • The composition of the Bureau Members of the upcoming 14th Session of the OIC-StatCom, which reflects the geographical distribution of the three official groups of the OIC; namely, the African, the Arab, and the Asian groups as follows: Chair: Türkiye (OIC Asia Group); Vice-Chair: Guinea (OIC Africa Group); Vice-Chair: Egypt (OIC Arab Group); Vice-Chair: Palestine (permanent); and Rapporteur: SESRIC (permanent).
  • The agenda items of the upcoming 14th Session of OIC-StatCom are as follows:
    • The OIC-StatCom Programme of Action for 2026-2030
    • Role of National Statistical Offices in Supporting Data-Driven Energy Transitions
    • Modernization of NSOs through Digitalization
    • Sustainable Development Goals: Monitoring and Reporting SDG 4 (Quality Education) Indicators
  • The date and the venue of the upcoming 14th Session of the OIC-StatCom as follows: Physical meeting in October 2025 in Ankara, Republic of Türkiye.

With regards to 14th session chairmanship, H.E. Dr. Erhan ÇETİNKAYA, President of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) conveyed his sincere appreciation to the Secretariat of the OIC-StatCom and the OIC countries for their confidence in TurkStat to chair the forthcoming session of the OIC-StatCom.
