Date: 24 December 2024
Venue: FAO HQ Ankara - Türkiye

SESRIC and FAO Subregional Office for Central Asia (FAO-SEC) in Türkiye convened a coordination meeting at FAO Headquarters in Ankara, to discuss potential collaboration opportunities between the two organisations.

The meeting provided an important platform for in-depth discussions on FAO-SEC statistical cooperation projects and potential areas for collaboration. Both parties delved into important topics such as fishery and aquaculture statistics, addressing data gaps related to SDG 2 indicators, harmonizing data, and engaging in technical cooperation activities focused on food waste and loss, as well as analysing the impact of the environment on aquaculture and fisheries.

In addition to these discussions, SESRIC shared valuable insights on the various projects and activities planned and undertaken within the framework of the Agriculture and Food Security Capacity Building Programme (Agri-CaB), and the Environment Capacity Building Programme (Environment-CaB), and the Statistical Capacity Building Programme (StatCaB). These initiatives are specifically geared towards improving agriculture and food security, enhancing environmental sustainability within the context of agriculture and advancing SDG 2 indicators.

The discussion concluded positively, focusing on ways and means for advancing South-South Cooperation initiatives, enhancing knowledge exchange programmes, and collaborating for advancing the agriculture sector in the OIC countries.
