H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR, Director General of SESRIC, briefed the 3rd OIC Member States Conference on Mediation on the development of a Code of Conduct Focusing on Culturally Sensitive Mediation Approaches

SESRIC delegation headed by H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR, Director General, participated in the Third OIC Member States Conference on Mediation that took place in Istanbul on 01 November 2019. The Conference was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey in collaboration with the OIC General Secretariat. The Conference carried the theme “Exploring Approaches to Effective Mediation: The Role of Culturally Sensitive Mediation”. The main objective of the Conference was to review the current state of mediation capacity within the OIC and build upon efforts to flesh out a Code of Conduct on culturally sensitive mediation.

During the Conference, H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR, Director General of SESRIC, participated as a panelist in the discussions on “Culturally Sensitive Mediation: Contours of a Code of Conduct”. In his presentation, H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR elaborated on the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) Resolution entitled “Strengthening the Mediation Capacity of the OIC”, which mandated the OIC General Secretariat to prepare a Code of Conduct for mediators “including culturally sensitive mediation approaches”. H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR highlighted the work that has been done by SESRIC in close collaboration with the OIC General Secretariat on developing a Mediators Guideline “Code of Conduct” Focusing on Culturally Sensitive Mediation Approaches in order to realize the CFM Resolution. Furthermore, H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR shared his views on the contours of the Mediators Guideline “Code of Conduct” Focusing on Culturally Sensitive Mediation Approaches and offered insights on conceptualizing culture within the context of mediation and some culturally sensitive guidelines for mediators.
