Training Course on “Tourism Development”

Within the framework of SESRIC’s Tourism Capacity Building Programme (Tourism-CaB), SESRIC organized a training course on “Tourism Development” on 09-13 November 2020 for the benefit of experts and executives from the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Tourism Development and Silk Road International University of Tourism in Uzbekistan.

The sessions of the training were delivered by distinguished experts from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, Turkish Standards Institute (TSE), National University of Bangladesh, International Institute for Halal Research and Training (INHART) of Malaysia, SMIIC and SESRIC.

The course provided insights into the ways and means of strengthening the competitiveness of the tourism sector in Uzbekistan with special emphasis on the sub-segments of the tourism sector such as Muslim-Friendly tourism, rural tourism and smart tourism. It also provided opportunity of the transfer of knowledge and best practices on the development and promotion of these segments by developing successful policies, regulations, standards and marketing strategies. The training course has mainly focused on following topics:

  • Sustainable Tourism in the Context of “COVID-19”
  • Characteristics of Ziyarah (Muslim-Friendly) Tourism and “Halal” Standards
  • Supporting Entrepreneurs to Increase the Competitiveness in the Fields of Tourism and Hospitality during the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • COVID-19 and Importance of Domestic Tourism: The Case of Bangladesh
  • New Information Technologies in the field of Tourism “Smart Tourism”
  • Safe Tourism Certification Programme and Hygiene and Sanitation Management System Standard
  • Specificity and Culture of Serving Tourists from Different Regions of the World

The training course was designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this difficult time of the global crisis due to COVID-19 pandemic.
